Arlington Recreation Summer 2020 Programming Update

Arlington Recreation Summer 2020 Programming Update

Arlington Recreation would like to thank each of you for your patience and support as we try to implement a programming strategy for the summer of 2020 that is safe, follows all state and local health guidelines, and makes operating sense for the department as we continue to monitor and address concerns related to Covid-19. Currently staff is busy working with the Arlington Health Department on policy and procedures that will allow us to offer limited summer recreational programming beginning the week of July 27th.

We realize that many families signed up for summer programming prior to our closing summer registration in April. With summer recreational programming being either cancelled or modified we will be issuing household credits for all summer programs. In a gesture of thanks for accepting a household credit we will also include an additional 10% of the total program cost to each household credit. The issuing of household credits instead of refunds will assist our self-supporting department in being able to offer summer programming during these financially difficult times.  Household credits can be used for any Arlington Recreation or Ed Burns Arena program and will never expire. Individuals who would rather receive a refund can contact Program Supervisor Zach Vaillette at zvaillette@town.arlington.ma.us and refunds will be processed accordingly for the full amount of the cost of the program.

At the present time we do not have plans to open the Arlington Reservoir for swimming and beach activities; it will be open as an open space for outdoor passive recreation. The Thompson Spray Park will open on July 1 and remain free to the public but will be a supervised facility this summer and open with limited capacity and additional new safety protocols in place as required by state and local health authorities.

Arlington Recreation understands that these decisions are disappointing and may not be what some residents were hoping for. We understand, and will continue to monitor information from state and local health authorities and reassess these decisions throughout the summer months.

Information about our summer 2020 program offerings and registration will be announced by July 1st, please be sure to visit arlingtonrec.com for more details. Once again, we at Arlington Recreation thank you for your continued support and look forward to providing you with the same high quality programs that the residents of Arlington deserve and are used to.
